![]() On these trips we saw a redtail hawk, multiple coves of quails, several flocks of smaller birds, desert cottontail rabbits, several lizards and a dead lizard that, most likely, had been impaled on a branch by a loggerhead shrike. We saw a painted lady butterfly and several other butterflies. There was a slow moving western patch nosed snake early one morning. There were many spiders with orb webs containing central egg cases. Trip report Photo album Providence Mountain ![]() We came to South Twin River where it there were clear rapids flowing over irregular rock suggesting a mountain trout stream. On close observation there were several minnows and a few fingerlings seen. A lovely grassy stream bank was just right for dipping feet in the water and lying back in the sun while nibbling a tasty snack. Trip report Photo album Fall colors ![]() “Look, Bob” Pov exclaimed excitedly. She had stopped when she saw a black tongue flicking at the edge of the trail. She was a few steps back from a moving snake which it struck across the trail about 45° away from her.
