![]() On the first day a way to get around Ramparts Falls requiring going over a steep ridge of loose rocky soil was found. The next day a route was worked out to get to Stillwater Crest then along the crest and down a complex route to Hare Canyon and then back to the trailhead. Crimson columbine May 19-22, 2011 Turtles Mopah Castle Rock We set out to find an easy route to a huge plateau that forms the vertical south wall of Mopah Springs bowl. I call it Turtle Mountain Mesa. It is almost completely surrounded by vertical cliffs. Some searching found an easy way. There was a grand view even though we did not get all the way to the top of the south rim. Desert iguana April 8-10, 2011 Turtles Coffin Loop We
saw carpenter ants, a red velvet-ant, and a giant desert scorpion, We
saw several kangaroo rats, an antelope squirrel and black-tailed and
desert cottontail rabbits. We found a roundtailed horned lizard, a regal
horned lizard and a side blotched lizard. Turtle Mountain March 17-24, 2011 Turtles Mopah Coffin This was a five night trip starting from Lisa Dawn with two dry camps where we explored parts of Ward Valley, Gary Wash and Vidal Valley with camps at Mohawk Springs and Coffin Springs.
